The project execution services are streamlined to minimise the project management burden, but not at the expense of risk to delivery assurance. Resources will be shared across multiple projects where possible or supplied on a part-time basis.

THIRD PARTY TIE BACK - MANAGEMENT
SAMPHIRE SUBSEA CASE STUDY
Challenge
Following pipeline failure, the existing wells were stranded. The third party owner & operator of the facilities were reviewing options to produce the existing wells to a new host.
Solution
Samphire was engaged to manage the delivery of the study work from the new host operator perspective. This involved assessing the subsea tie ins and the topsides process capacity to accommodate the new requirements along with defining the modifications where capacity was not available.
The target in the early phase work was to mature the technical definition work, characterise the risk associated with integration of the new fluids and detail the project costs / schedule for input to decision making. This included input to the commercial deliverables.
The final solution involved minor mods to the process plant, new chemical injections pumps, subsea tie in works and significant control system mods.
Result
The solution was developed to minimise capital expenditure, minimise the shutdown period and the offshore works. Samphire used an adapted client capital project process in support of the work development to achieve the result.
SAMPHIRE SUBSEA CASE STUDY
FEASIBILITY STUDY WORKS – MANAGEMENT
Challenge
The operator of a small field was considering the field development plan and approached the operator of a neighbouring FPSO as a potential host.
Solution
Samphire was engaged to manage the delivery of the study work from the host operator perspective. This involved developing and managing a study scope of work. This assessed a number of well development cases, configurations and production profiles with respect to tie-in options and the topsides process capacity to accommodate the new fields, along with defining the modifications where capacity was not available.
The objective of the study was to carry out a level of technical work to determine project feasibility, define available options where they existed and document key project risks. Estimated project costs (+/- 50%) and a Level 1 FEED and project execution schedule were also developed.
Minimising FPSO modifications and negating the need for installing additional risers at the FPSO was recognised at the outset as key benefit to the project economics and execution strategy. Flow assurance was therefore a key area of work to determine the feasibility of comingling the new fields production fluids with existing fields at the existing riser bases. Definition of the riser base tie-in arrangement and layout was also a key area given the existing congested seabed infrastructure. Likely production chemistry risks and operability issues were also considered at this stage.
Result
Samphire delivered the technical work to provide a robust solution to enable project decision making.
BROWNFIELD PROJECT EXECUTION
SAMPHIRE SUBSEA CASE STUDY
Challenge
With the asset approaching end of field life, key flowline infrastructure was deemed to require replacement for ongoing use and life extension,
Solution
Samphire was engaged to manage the engineering and execution of the replacement flowlines. The workscope required pre-cutting of the trench for the lay route, laying of the replacement flowlines and subsequent backfilling of the flowlines. Spot rock dumping was also completed to cater for upheaval buckling on the review of the survey data post installation.
The work involved bid process development, technical and commercial evaluations of the bids, prior to final selection.
Result
Samphire worked with the chosen subsea contractor, to optimise the vessel solution such that both products could be installed in a single trip. This delivered savings across transits and mobilisation costs and provided an overall safer operation for the client. Samphire was also engaged to support the engineering and execution of the 2nd phase of the scope which involved the disconnection of the existing infrastructure and the tie in and testing of the new flowlines during a planned outage.
PACKAGE MANAGEMENT
SAMPHIRE SUBSEA CASE STUDY
Challenge
An ineffective commercial and contractual framework can lead to significant extra costs through the work life cycle. This can either be as a result of an unbalanced view on risk or direct costs through duplication of effort throughout the supply chain.
To positively improve this situation requires a general desire to align terms to the business needs. The relationships require to be based on trust such that no overlaps exist through the chain but with clear accountability for delivery and with real ’stake in the game’. Samphire has been involved with several examples where business need has driven a different contractual solution. Production was shut down on a North Sea asset on failure of a manifold spool. The main subsea installation contractor was unable to secure and manage delivery of a spool in a compressed time frame to minimise impact.
Solution
Samphire contracted directly with a fabrication supplier and took a fit for purpose approach to the issue; shortened design life of spool through the use of standard weld procedure qualifications, aligned inspection and QA validation to key process risks and shared this with contractor, supported the contractor in alternative working practices to secure a quicker delivery and took a pragmatic approach to the contract terms. All this was delivered over the difficult Christmas period.
Result
The spool was delivered within 12 weeks (including the Christmas break) from order direct to the DSV, this minimised the asset production outage with a 4 week saving from the alternative case.
PROJECT DELIVERY – SINGLE VESSEL SOLUTION

Challenge
Gas service and two production risers were at the end of their design life and required to be replaced to ensure the facilities could be supported until end of field life. Selection of the subsea engineering solution for the riser replacement works was critical and would largely dictate project costs.
Samphire was engaged to manage the engineering and execution of the replacement risers. The work required shallow diving under the FPSO turret, winch operations for product recovery / installation and sat diving for the subsea connection to the riser base.
Traditional selection criteria would dictate a two vessel solution; DSV for install and sat works and a support vessel for the air diving operations.
Solution
Samphire completed a technical evaluation of the work at the subsea contractor selection stage to consider if a DSV with a larger deck could accommodate all equipment to provide a one vessel solution. This resulted in the selection of a mid-size DSV as the installation vessel. Further efficiencies and optimisations were made following review of deck layouts, equipment footprints, installation schedules and vessel operations.
Result
As a result three gas service and two production risers were replaced over two campaigns with one vessel creating an overall safer solution and delivering significant cost savings for the client.
